A Dragons Tale: The Stormborn Hero

Chapter Twenty

Khan and Markhano flew straight to the main courtyard of Angband, where they found several of Meraxes guards had surrendered. Khan landed and took out something from a bag he was holding. All the guards looked to see Khan was holding Meraxes head. All their allies cheered to hear the good news. Khan looked in the main room to see the prisoners were given blankets and food.

Khan was greeted by Ender and Creed, who saw he was still holding Meraxes head. Axel came over with a spear and Khan put Meraxes head on it. Khan looked around to try and find the Yaxil dragon and his wife, but didn’t see them. Khan then went up to the tower. He looked to see Valik and Darto inside the room and they both had depressed looks on their faces. He then went to the cell, and saw the Yaxil dragons were dead.

Khan: “What happened?” He asked in shock, then heard small crying.

Khan looked to see Valik was holding a brown baby dragon in his arms.

Darto: “While the others…were holding off Meraxes forces, Valik and I helped the Yaxil dragons.” He said in a sad voice. “Our forces arrived, just as they broke down the door. We managed to fend them off, while the Yaxil dragon gave birth to a son.” He said.

Khan: “But how did this happen?” He asked in a sad tone, while pointing to the cell.

Valik: “ After she gave birth, the male dragon put the baby in the chest near the bed. But the battle forced us away from the door.” He explained, as he teared. “After it was over…we looked and found a spear in the mothers chest and the father was stabbed through the heart, and an undead dragon on the floor.” He explained.

Darto: “We figured that it slipped passed us.” He said.

Khan: “Let me take him.” He said as he looked at the baby. “He made me promise him that I would care for the baby.” He said about the Yaxil dragon.

Markhano then came in and saw what had happened. The resistance only suffered minimal casualties. They focused on taking all of their dead and placed them on carts, taking them back to Dragonheart to be buried. Khan was in the courtyard, holding the baby dragon in his arms. He looked to see he was sound asleep.

Ender: “Khan!” He said, as he approached his friend. “We found thousands of pots and hundreds of barrels in the cellar. They’re all filled with liquid wildfire.” He said. “Axel says we should have them brought to the kingdom.” He said.

Khan: “No!” He said, then Ender looked at him. “Have Axel and the others use it.” He said.

Ender: “On what?” He asked in confusion, then looked to see Khan was looking at Angband castle.

Khan: “Tell the others to prep the wildfire and have it ready to blow this place up.” He said. “And have them take some barrels to the eastern fort, that my uncle was held in. This way, no one gets the idea of using this place as a torture chamber ever again.” He explained.

Ender and Khan went to Axel with the idea, and the others agreed. Axel had several dragons take fifty barrels and a-few hundred pots to the fort, while the others scattered the remaining pots and barrels all over the castle. They kept some barrels in the basement and walked upstairs, while pouring liquid wildfire from the pots on the basement steps. All the dead Angband dragons were placed in the courtyard and soaked in the liquid. The dragons then evacuated the castle.

Karo waited until everyone was far out of range. Once he got the signal, he lit a torch and flew high into the sky. He dropped the torch over the dead dragons and flew straight-up as fast as he could. The torch lit the soaked dragons and ignited the wildfire. Within seconds, the pots and barrels in the main-hall exploded, then the rest of the castle quickly went up in flames. Angband castle had been destroyed and burned to the ground.

On their way back to Dragonheart, Karo looked east to see smoke, knowing that the fort had been destroyed. They then looked to see some of their allies flying in their direction. After they landed, the dragons explained that the prisoners held in the fort were in their way to Dragonheart. The long conflict with Meraxes was finally over. The dragons of Dragala, could now live in peace.
