The Orphaned Wolf

Chapter 7: Learning

Now living at Hillside Estate, Kyle was well cared for as promised. Wilkins became Kyle’s legal guardian and adopted father. Wilkins had ordered David to make more suits for Kyle. David was a master tailor, he often made suits using British fabrics, but he really enjoyed designing and fashioning German suits, which is what Kyle and Wilkins wore when they first met. Wilkins had hired private tutors to teach Kyle in language, history, reading, manors, writing, speech, posture and poise. Wilkins even taught Kyle to play chess as an activity for him. Kyle spent the first few days walking around the estate, getting to know the place and how it works.

Wilkins had set up a bedroom for Kyle which contained a king-sized bed, a dresser filled with night shirts, underwear and socks, a desk, a sofa and some chairs, and a large walk-in closet that contained nothing but suits and some tuxedos that David had made. The closet also contained bath and night robes and drawers with ties, and tie tacks. The colors of the suits were black, brown, blue, gray and beige. The tuxedos consisted of a black colored jacket, belt and pants, along with a white collared shirt, vest and bowtie.

Wilkins made sure to take things slow with Kyle so he could get use to things. Kyle was given a daily routine. Every morning, he would get up and take a bath or shower. He would then get dressed in one of his suits, then go to the dining hall and have morning breakfast with Wilkins and Maxwell. When having breakfast, lunch and dinner, Wilkins and Maxwell would teach Kyle how to eat and sit properly during meals. After breakfast, Kyle would be tutored for two hours in foreign language and history. After Kyle had lunch, Wilkins would take him to the private study and pick out a book. Kyle would read it for one hour a day until he’d finished it, then would read another.

After reading, Kyle would be tutored for three hours on posture, poise and how to speak. After his lessons were done, Kyle would sit back-down for dinner. After evening meals, Kyle would just take the time to look around the estate. He would often stay with Wilkins in the living room to listen to the radio or music. Wilkins gave Kyle two days off a week, so he could take Kyle into London. He did this so that Kyle could learn the streets since was living there now. Wilkins would often take Kyle to the art and history museums. He found these ideas were also a good learning experience. Kyle would spend some nights in his room to read a book he found interesting or practice what his tutors had taught him.

Kyle found it hard at first, but after a month of living in the estate, he got use to things. He loved how Wilkins and the others were treating him. Wilkins had Doctor Evans give Kyle a check-up and also had a dentist come in to look at his teeth. The one thing that Kyle had trouble with, was the fact that he had to wear a suit everyday, but got use to wearing them after a couple of weeks. However, he didn’t enjoy wearing the suits when summer came around.

Wilkins also hired a music teacher to see if Kyle had a talent for music. Kyle explained how both his parents played the piano and would play and sing to help him fall asleep when he was a pup. Wilkins had Kyle try every instrument, until he found one that suited him. Kyle tried playing the trumpet, clarinet, violin, flute and various other instruments, but the one that Kyle enjoyed was the piano. Since his parents were both pianists, he was able to learn rather quickly. Kyle’s music tutor would have him study the music sheets and play the song until he got it right. Event though it was hard, Kyle rather enjoyed it, for it reminded him of the happy times he had with his parents.

Wilkins saw how the lessons were making Kyle more mature. He was amazed at how well things turned out with him. Wilkins knew that Kyle was going to be a well proper, wolf-like gentleman.
